Ramakrishna Mission Shilpavidyalaya, a reputed Private Industrial Training Institute (I.T.I.), was established in 1921 by Ramakrishna Mission in the vicinity of its Headquarters at Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal, located on the western banks of the holy river Ganga, north of Kolkata. In these 100 years of service, the institution has been inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s deep insight that the fulcrum of India’s progress depends on the improvement of the masses, especially in rural India.

Shilpavidyalaya offers one/two-year skills training in professional technical courses to youth in rural and urban areas aspiring to become skilled workmen employable in the industry or entrepreneurs in their own right. During their course, trainees are also introduced to the divine lives of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda, with special emphasis on the divinity of man, the harmony of religions, the oneness of humanity, the synthesis of work and worship, and the man-making and nation-building ideas as taught by Swami Vivekananda.

Along with two Higher Secondary Vocation courses affiliated to the West Bengal State Council for Technical & Vocational Education & Skill Development (WBSCT&VE&SD), Shilpavidyalaya is also affiliated to the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) with the following ITI trades under the Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS):
